Abstract:

With the aim of emission reduction and fuel consumption studies in order to meet advanced regulations, it is necessary to use sophisticated methods which among these approaches, EGR technique is a powerful tool in NOx (as an important emission in diesel engines) reduction assessments. The main goal of this contribution is to evaluate the effects of EGR strategy implementation on exhaust emissions and fuel consumption with the purpose of emission reduction specially NOx and at the same time controlling the level of fuel consumption in a new localproduced heavy duty 12 cylinders diesel engine called D87 in diesel model of operation. Two main models have been developed which examine the effects of EGR usage in variable start of injection of fuel. The current emission levels (NOx and soot) of this new engine will compare with various emission regulations such as IMO-MARPOL, UICII, UICIII, and World Bank for stationary engines. It has shown that employing of EGR system to 12V D87 engine will decrease the NOx to the desired level without increasing high amount in bsfc.
