Study of Torsional Vibration and Crankshaft Life in a 6 Cylinder Heavy Duty Diesel Engine abstract
Torsional Vibration (TV) is one of the major issue and critical calculation for the safe running of the engine specifically crankshaft and the attached driven machinery in heavy duty diesel engines. Because of different applications of a heavy duty diesel engine, different driven machine and different attaching systems are mandatory in different speeds and so TV assessment should be carried out in any engine application or any new engine development.Here two different software, ADAMSEngine commercial software and AVLBrike (Engine Simulation Software Package) have been used for this calculation and the results have been compared with results of In-House software developed by Torsional damper supplier (Geislinger Gmbh). TV assessment carried out in normal and misfire (i.e. one cylinder misfiring or with different firing) conditions. Thecrankshaft life and other design criteria in TV system are presented and discussed totally and results are reported and compared. There is a good agreement between three different programs and also the criteria have been fulfilled.
