Prevention & Management of Maxillary Sinus Lift complication abstract

Maxillary sinus lift (also termed subantral augmentation, sinus floor augmentation, maxillary sinus augmentation) is a very effective surgical procedure used to increase bone in the posterior maxilla and, therefore, allow placement of dental implants. This surgery is followed with some complications. The complications most frequently encountered during this type of surgery are laceration of an intraosseous artery (causing bleeding) and perforation of the Schneiderian membrane (the membrane lining the maxillary sinus cavity )and so on.Another complication is sinusitis even though the rate is relatively low but its occurrence is important because management of the infections following sinus lift is very traumatic for patient, because both antibiotic therapy and surgical intervention including removal of the bone material are required the infected sinus mucosa and in some cases the implants placed adjacent. In case of bleeding, the procedure has to be suspended until the bleeding is controlled. In case of perforation of the Schneiderian membrane, a repair must be attempted, however in surgical process, use of preventive procedures, materials and surgical techniques for success of treatment are necessary.
