A STUDY OF TRACING CONTAMINANT THROUGH THE SURFACE WATER INVOLVING PHYSICAL AND NUMERICAL MODELS abstract

The results of a 1-D water contaminant transport study using Physical and Numerical models, is reported in this paper. Numerical simulations have been done by Upstream, Forward Time Central Space (FTCS), Lax & Wendroff (LWS) and Quickest Scheme methods. Also in order to evaluate the numerical models, a physical model has been built. According to the results there was good agreement between Upstream scheme, Lax & Wendroff scheme and Quickest scheme with experimental results. However, some differences between numerical and physical results were experienced, which was because of oscillation in the flow. Between all numerical models, Upstream has showed the best result and FTCS has showed the worse result.
