Abstract:

BackhroundsLigamentous laxity is defined as the excessive movement of the joints in comparisonwith the range of its main and defined movement, with a high percentage in healthypeople in the absence of other diseases, which is referred to as the joint articularjoint of the benign generalized ligamentous laxity, It can be a predisposing factor formusculoskeletal injuriesMethodsIn this descriptive-analytic study, by simple sampling method, among the youngpopulation aged 40-17 years old , 378 people were selected, taking into account theroughly equal sex ratio of different ethnicities, the ligamentous laxity with clinicalexamination by Beighton criteria (scale 4 and above) were evaluated. The collecteddata were analyzed by SPSS software version 16 at %95 confidence levelResultsThe prevalence of generalized ligamentous laxity in the present study was %22.8. The most common ligament laxity was on the fingers. More than %90 of patients withgeneral ligament laxity had no knowledge of their problem and their importance inchoosing a field of sports; %14 had a history of sports injury and %36.5 had skeletal orarticular disease. The overall prevalence of general ligamentous laxity was significantlyhigher in women than in men, and the percentage of articular and skeletal diseasesin patients with generalized ligament laxity was significantly higher than that of nonaffectedindividuals.Conclusions The prevalence of generalized ligamentous laxity in the population aged17 to 40 years in Hamadan province, especially in women, is relatively high regardlessof ethnicity. Most of the patients were unaware of their problem and its importancein choosing a sports field, and the history of articular and skeletal diseases wassignificantly higher in hyperlax individuals
