Abstract:

Nowadays, while nonlinear loads are increasing, most of the needed electrical energy is produced by fossil fuelsin the world. The environmental degradation of fossil power plants, the reduction of the fuel source and, consequentlyincrease in fuel costs and the cost of energy produced, have pushed manufacturers to use renewable sources such aswind turbines. Wind power injection on the network with respect to the wind natural fluctuations and the application ofdouble-feed induction generator cause to power quality problems. In this paper, the new algorithm is proposed tooptimize the unified power flow controller (UPFC) with the aim of power quality improvement in the presence of windturbine and nonlinear loads. UPFCs presence results in a reduction in the harmonics caused by the existing nonlinearload and wind turbine in the network, which actually THD factor for voltage and current waveform at PCC bus is theobjective function for deciding on the optimal location of UPFC in the network. The combination of a fuzzy controllerand PID controller whose reference current is generated using a synchronous reference frame algorithm is used forcontrol of compensator and to validate simulation studies on a test network, then conceptual results have beenpresented.
