Abstract:

In this work, a framework to predict Li-ion batteries useful life by coupling electrochemical and thermal-aging models is introduced. The model takes into account the impact of battery operating conditions of wind-battery systems including various charge/discharge profiles to predict battery degradation over time. To this aim Tehran and Manjil cities with different wind potentials are selected to assess the effect of charging pattern. In addition, the effect of discharge profile is investigated through a household electrical load and a greenhouse lighting load. Results show a remarkable impact of operating conditions on battery bank lifetime. A range of 4.6 to 7.5 years of battery longevity is calculated by analysing different case studies.Investigating different operating conditions indicates that operating at high SOC levels for a long period would lead to a significant battery capacity loss. As a result, the proposed method can be used as a decision support tool to evaluate the impact of operating conditions on battery lifetime estimation.
