Industrial analysis of 1-butene production process using Life Cycle Assessment tool abstract

One of industries which consumes so much energy and makes waste chemical pollutants in wide range is Chemical industry. In the recent decades,

because of fossil fuel resources reduction and global warming issues, chemical and processing industries have been forced to use processes which make least chemical waste known as Eco-friendly processes. The aim of this study is to assess different industrial processes of 1-butene production to determine which one is environmentally better. Accordingly, some technologies such as Technip, Axens, Saipem, Linde AG and Lummus are selected and all available information about them is explored. Then, three main parameters such as production rate of 1-butene, energy consumption and waste material production are chosen as main criteria for this assessment. Axens and Technip because of their lower energy consumption and lower waste material are the best of all. Finally, for production of 1-butene, hazardous situations are determined and some suggestions such as elimination and replacement of technologies to reduce pollution and waste material; have been presented.
