Mobile health application to support PTSD affected people: a review

Introduction: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental condition that can be appear after confront to the traumatic event. Mobile health is a word that used for the medicine and public health activities that supported by mobile devices. These applications are used to management several disorders. Mobile health applications can be used to the support and treatment of the patients who are suffer from PTSD. This study reviews the articles in the field of mobile health application to the support of PTSD patients.Methods: This is a review study. PubMed database was searched to find the studies in the field of mobile health application in PTSD. (mhealth or mobile health) AND Post Traumatic Stress Disorder are key words that were used to search. Data were extracted from the final studies based on the year, country, participants, type of intervention and type of applications. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis.Results: Results of 6 final studies showed that all studies have been performed in USA between the years of 2012 to 2016. In 5 studies veterans are participants and the applications have been used for self-management of PTSD. All studies found mobile application beneficial, useful and easy to set up for managing of PTSD. Conclusions: Mobile health applications have been increasingly used in recent years to support PTSD patients specially veterans in order to help them to return them to their normal life.
