Abstract:
Nowadays the growing number of people with diseases puts such a pressure on healthcare systems that innovativeapproaches are required to make healthcare systems more effective and more efficient. One way of innovatinghealthcare can be obtained by introducing new services that support and enable these people with chronic diseases in amore independent living and in self-management with respect to their disorders. Examples of such services are RemoteMonitoring and Remote Medical Treatment Systems (RMT).In this paper we assume that a RMT system exists that isequipped with 6 sensors. The sensors measure the ECG data of a patient and send them to monitoring center. ECGcontains very important clinical information about the cardiac activities of heart. Because ECG is a quasi-stationarysignal, small variations of it need to be extracted using signal processing techniques. Using MIT/BIH database, wesimulated ECG signal with amplitude of 3.5 mV. Small variations of simulated normal and contaminated ECG signalhave been extracted using FFT and Wavelet. The wavelet found to be more precise over conventional FFT in findingthe small abnormalities in ECG signal.
