Bacterial Cellulose Production Using Gluconacetobacter xylinus PTCC 1734 abstract

Cellulose as the most abundant biopolymer on the Earth, can also be produced by certain groups of microbes. Special characteristics of the Bacterial Cellulose(BC) have given unique position to this biopolymer emphasizing on the BC usage in medical materials. Production of BC by Gluconacetbacter xylinus PTCC 1734 was studied in the present work, where comparison was made on the basis of biopolymer yield as the response of bacterial cell incubated under the two different conditions: static incubation and production in the flasks with use of shaker incubator. The findings showed preference of static incubation and the BC yield 1.25 times higher as compared with that produced in flasks incubated in shaker incubator.
