Sediment Non-uniform effects on Local Scour Due to Hydraulic Jump abstract
Accurate prediction of maximum local scour depth at the vicinity of hydraulic structures is necessary for their safe design. Most of the local scour studies which have been carried out, neglect the effect of sediment gradation. Channel with non-uniform sediment, which make the prediction of local scour for natural rivers more difficult than uniform ones. This study has investigated the scour phenomenon under the different conditions of the bed material gradation. Tests have been carried out in a loose boundary flume with 30cm width. Hydraulic jump creates, putting a sluice gate in flow direction. The results indicate that the most non-uniform sediments have the most increasing rate of maximum scour depth at initial hours, whereas after that the process is vice versa. The results have been presented as tables and graphs
