A New Approach in Intelligent Control of Automatic Voltage Regulators abstract

A simplified procedure to design emotional learning based controllers in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment is provided in this article. It aimed at developing a controller based on brain emotional learning for simulation an Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) in analyzing the transient stability power system. Power quality and voltagestability of the electrical systems depend on appropriate performance of the Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVR) of generators. We use a Brain Emotional Learning Based Intelligent Controller (BELBIC) to adjust the frequency error for an AVR system. BELBIC works in accordance with the emotional learning process in Amygdala-Orbitofrontalsystem of the mammalians brain. The BELBIC can be applied to a large variety of the systems, and it is a very suitable method to solve control engineering problems. The simulation results of this controller and other controllers such as PID for an Automatic Voltage Regulator in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment show that it develops and improves the stability control function, the volatility and settling time. It improves amplitude of oscillations and settling time up to 23% and 7%, respectively.
