Abstract:
Dust storms are one of the meteorological phenomena and also hazards in arid and semi-arid regions. One of the most important factors for the reduction of dust storm occurrence is vegetation coverage which is affected by precipitation. Zabol area, located in Sistan and Baluchistan province, is one of the most affected places in Iran concerning the occurrences of dust storms. Thus, in this research the relationships between precipitation and dust events were investigated using a time series of CALIPSO data and meteorological data. Results show although there is an inverse relationship between the precipitation and dust, but it is not always true. Also, the maximal frequency of dust storms has been occurred in June and July. Finally, it is suggested a prudently management of the water resources for Hamun wetland by the governments of Iran and Afghanistan.
