Abstract:

Wireless sensor network (WSN) can be used in agriculture to provide farmers with necessary information. For this purpose, numerous sensor nodes can be deployed in the agriculture fields to monitor and collect data, such as humidity, air pressure, and soil moisture parameters. The normal operation of such a system depends on lifetime of the network. Therefore, a key concern in WSN technology is to enhance the network lifetime and to reduce the energy consumption of the sensor network. An important parameter for reducing power consumption is the selection of optimum routing protocol. In this study, we introduce an optimized energy efficient routing scheme for WSNs used in agricultural purposes. We compare performance of our proposed algorithm with some of the existing routing protocols such as LEACH and DEEC. Performance results and statistical analysis show that our proposed protocol performs well in terms of energy consumption and network lifetime.
