JPEG Image Compression with Bit-Shifting using Python abstract

Standard JPEG is known as lossy compression for images. Since the number of images is increasing day to day, the compression techniques are required to deal with large data volume and bandwidth consumption. On the other hand, low power systems aren’t able to handle intensive computations. In this paper, a significant approach is proposed to decrease the data volume despite of not losing quality. Also, intensive computations are reduced. This achievement is in the quantization stage where bit-shifting is used instead of dividing and multiplying in the standard JPEG quantization. Here we used python programming language to implement the JPEG standard. As a result, the computation costs decreased besides reducing the image file size.
