A Comprehensive Comparison on FPGA Implementation Solutions for DES Cryptography Algorithm abstract
In FPGA platform, the embedded designer has the following options to implement design: pure HDL-based and co-design with embedded soft/hard core implementation. Using soft core has several benefits than hard core and current FPGAs allow for the integration of customizable soft-core processors. That is, an FPGA might employ typical processor capabilities with different configuration. On FPGAs a convenient solution for designing a multiprocessor system is the use of soft-core processors. In this paper, the DES algorithm is implemented in two different way, namely soft-core based multiprocessor implementation and HDL-based then, a comprehensive comparison in terms of power consumption, performance and computing complexity will be demonstrated for comparing these two solutions.
