Abstract:

In this paper, the power system voltage stability in the presence of constant and variable speed wind turbines and the SVC, one of the most well-known FACTS devices, is evaluated. Fixed speed wind turbine squirrel-cage (SCIG) type and variable speed wind turbine type, rotor winding, with rotor frequency control capability (DFIG) is selected. After the model of the SVC and constant speed wind turbines and variable one analyzed from the viewpoint of power system, a network of 33 buses simulated in CYME software and, then busbar voltage stability in the presence of each of wind turbines and SVC are examined separately. The results show that before installing wind turbines and the SVC and without any protection constraints, the maximum amount of loading is 1.71pu, while by installing wind turbines either constant speed or/and variable speed separately, the loading rate raised to 1.74pu. In the mentioned network, type of wind turbine does not influence the maximum loading. Also, with the installation of the SVC a maximum loading increases about 1.91pu. in addition, it can be seen that by changing the location of wind turbines and SVC, the improvement of voltage stability changes too.
