Abstract:
An experimental investigation has been carried out on hybrid structure consist of aluminum 2024-T3 sheets and E-glass woven fabrics without epoxy against 8.7mm diameter spherical rigid projectiles. the thickness of all specimens are the same and equal to 2.32 mm. the thickness and number of aluminum sheet in each side is different. There is no resin epoxy here and 90O, and 45O orientation are selected for E-glass woven fabrics. A gas-gun machine was used to perform the tests. Damage modes and energy absorption of all specimens were investigated, and it was clear that dividing a thick aluminum sheets into two thin sheets will affect energy absorption. In addition, damage modes in aluminum sheets is absolutely influenced by dividing a thick sheet into two thin sheets.
