Abstract:

The distribution of stress in horizontal composite cylindrical vessels on the saddle supports is reviewed. These vessels are simulated using different methods including finite element. The contact pressure between the saddle supports and the cylindrical vessel is reviewed. Investigation of the results of stress concentration near the horn of the saddle support is made by studying of those obtained using finite element and those reported in the literature. The effect of some parameters including saddle size and position on the results are investigated in the literature. The results obtained, show that for a specific saddle size and position, the position as well as the amplitude of the maximum stress depends on the fiber orientation in the composite layup.
