Abstract:

Composite structures have many advantages in different systems with wide applications in structural engineering, and considering the failure of composites and bimaterial structures have attracted great attention of researchers. Sharp changes of the geometry or the material properties of the system lead to stress concentration, in which the stress in some places increases locally with respect to the nominal stress on the far field which is represented by stress intensity factor. In bimaterial systems, Dundurs parameters represent a measure of the mismatch in the system which are defined versus properties of the bimaterial. In this work, the stress intensity factor of a crack on the interface of the bimaterial system is studied through Finite Element Method by using ABAQUS software. The effect of the mismatch is investigated on the stress intensity factor for different Dundurs parameters. The results show an inverse relation between Dundurs parameters and the stress intensity factor.
