PEM Fuel Cell System Design and Performance Study for Telecom Backup Power Supply abstract
A major challenge of our planet relates to climate change which is mainly a consequence of the fossil fuels overusing, nowadays. Deployment of fuel cell systems is a sustainable and revolutionary technology to develop the use of renewable sources in order to supply backup power to telecommunication stations. The use of fuel cell systems would result in higher efficiency and fewer pollutants emissions compared with the usual generators which burn fossil fuels. Within that context, a fuel cell system was studied and tested. Furthermore, the required auxiliary components were designed to support the operation. The results demonstrate that the fuel cell stack was able to supply electric current with the power of 5 kW and voltage of 24 V, with 31 cells and total surface area of 463 cm2. Also, it was designed needless of extra heat and water to operate, as well as electricity to run the air compressor. In conclusion, it can be said that the designed system is entirely a right choice for the desired application and easily fits with its requirements
