Effect of Organic Fluids on Consolidation Behavior of Clayey Soils abstract
Type of pore fluid is an important parameter affects the mechanical characteristics of clayey soils. Soils are usually subjected to different kinds of contaminants which are being used and excreted in environment. Leakage of these materials into the soil leads to the change in their geo-environmental characteristics. In present study, series of one-dimensional consolidation tests have been performed to evaluate the effect of kerosene and gas oil contamination on the behavior of clayey soils. Two kinds of clay, Kaolinite and Bentonite are used as the base materials in these tests. Three different weight percentages of contaminants including 3, 6 and 9 percents are used in sample preparation. According to the results, compressibility of fine grained soil becomes lower by increase in percentage of contamination
