The role of synergy in marine oil spill characterization abstract
Protecting coastlines, affecting CO2 fluxes and heat transfer, and harmful effects on marine ecosystem are the main reasons for detecting marine oil pollution. Different methods have been developed for this reason; including active and passive air and space borne sensors such as RADAR, Laser Fluoro-sensors, Infrared and Visible cameras, and SAR. Recently the concept of synergy has been implemented by scientists for covering limitation of one remote sensor by strength of other remote sensors for extracting more accurate information about different marine phenomena. In case of ocean pollution study, using SAR images seems to be appropriate due to their wide area coverage, high resolution and independency from weather condition. According to this fact that main part of marine oil pollution relates to illegal oil discharge, quick data transmission and rapid detection analysis are vital steps in order to speed up the process of decision making against wrongdoers. Taking these points into account, proposed classification by synergic data in this study highly recommended.
