Investigation of NanoMechanical Properties of Topneck mollusks shell in Direction of the Prismatic Layer and Perpendicular to the Prismatic Layer abstract

Nowadays, Nano mechanical properties have attracted wide attention among researchers. Nano indentation test is an efficient experimental method for examining the mechanical properties of engineering and biological materials on a Nano scale. The mechanism of biological materials structure is very complex and has optimal properties compared to engineering materials. Shells are an example of biological materials. Which Oyster shells are composed of a three -layer structure that outer layer is Periostracum, middle layer is Prismatic and the inner layer is nacre. 95 weight percent of which are inorganic materials (Aragonite CaCO3) and 5 percent are organic materials (protein-polysaccharide). The purpose of this paper is Investigation of Mechanical Properties of Topneck mollusks shell in towards the Prismatic Layer and Perpendicular to the Prismatic Layer. Research findings indicate that mechanical properties including elastic modulus and hardness in direct the Prismatic Layer are higher than Perpendicular to the Prismatic Layer in a Topneck mollusks shells.
