Abstract:
During summer, windows are the main sources of heat entrance to buildings. In the present study, solar heat gain factor in the city of Tehran is estimated based on some existing experimental results obtained in a rather similar situation. Considering the fact that the HVAC (Heat Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems are strongly dependent on heat transfer processes, it is obvious that the type and the formulation of materials utilized in the construction of buildings plays an important role in the amount of heat capacity and central heat of HVAC systems. Therefore, the impact of the type and characteristics of glass types on energy saving in buildings is investigated. Regular glass is replaced with low-e types, in many cases that glass has been used as insulator. This study, in addition to providing an introduction to the concept of heat transmission fundamentals of glass types and energy saved in buildings, then, for its application in buildings, energy efficiency properties of different glass types are studied.
