The Attitude of Nurses in Hospitals of Qazvin towards Safety Climate: A descriptive-analytic study

Abstract:

Background and Objective: Safety climate is in fact the common insights of the employees about safety management in a specific place and time. One of the highly risky jobs is being a nurse in which it is essential to take safety issues into consideration. This study aimed at investigating the attitude of nurses in the hospitals of the Qazvin City towards Safety climate. Materials and Methods: The current research was conducted with 315 nurses in hospitals of the Qazvin City in a descriptive-analytical method. A two section questionnaire was used for data collection, the first part of which was related to demographic and occupational characteristics of the nurses and the second part was the safety climate questionnaire of the nurses. After the data collection, the data were entered into SPSS-16 software. Data were analyzed using Descriptive Statistics and Pearson Correlation Coefficient. Findings: Results showed that the mean and standard deviation of safety climate in nurses are 0.56±3.06 in the present study. There were significant relationship between all the factors except the relationship between cumulative burnout and errors and mistakes reporting(P<0.05). The safety climate was almost equal between men and women, and also in single people more than married ones. In the morning shift, the highest safety climate is in the workplace. Also, people with a second job felt safety climate more. Conclusion: Research results showed that Safety climate in the nursing personnel under study was not satisfactory. Therefore, it is suggested that Safety climate was improved and its effect on the safety performance was increased by training safety issues, holding technical classes of safety, adjusting work-rest time, etc.
