The rate study of berry whitefly population and it’s control measures in the Tehran metropolitan green space

Over the past few years, on berry trees in the green space of Tehran city the whitefly have been introduced as an uninvited guest for four-year that called Aleuroclava jasmini senso lato (Hem: Aleyrodidae). During this period, Tehran parks and green spaces organization and the plant protection section of 22 municipality districts, in corperation with the National Institute of Plant Protection, have taken serious measures to control this pest. Also, population density of whiteflies in pilot sites were obtained at each municipal districts, which included 68 trees (28 Berries for install Yellow Traps and 40 Berries for biological stages study on leaves). Continuous monitoring, water-washing of berry trees, applying botanical soaps and green pruning in the first six-months and applying botanical dormant oils for hot spot zones, pruning trees and collecting infected leaves in the second six-month of the year measures were some of the most important actions of municipality of Tehran in the recent years. Studies have shown that three species of whiteflies including A. jasmini, Bemisia tabaci, pealus mori are active on the berry trees in Tehran and A. jasmini is dominant species. Population density of whiteflies different stages: adult (2×2cm quadrats on sticky cards), egg, nymph and pupae (8 cm2 on leaves) in 1396 were 11.10, 3.91, 2.12 and 1.94, respectively and In 1397, were 0.71, 0.6, 0.4, 0.13 respectively. The results show the decreasing trend of whiteflies populations during 1396 to 1397 in 22 municipal districts. According to Tehran parks and green spaces organization report, berry whitefly completely was controled in 1397 in tehran city.
