The Effect of Obesity on Women s Mental Health abstract

Background: Obesity considered as body mass index (BMI)> 30. It recognized as the major public health problem in developed countries, obesity has become main problem in all of the world and developing countries, like Iran. In our country obesity is becoming epidemic .obesity related to some disease like type-2 diabetes, cardiovascular, cancers, osteoarthritis. By increasing the levels of obesity psychological disturbances generate much of the morbidity and years of life missed. The goal of this study is to evaluate the effect of obesity on women s mental health. Methods: A narrative review was performed within articles published a PubMed , Elsevier , SID and original text books to reach the aim. Results: In the general population there is a significant positive relation between depression and obesity that seemed to be more marked among women. Also stronger associations between anxiety and obesity were seen. Studies show while growing up being teased about weight/size may clear a risk factor for expanding of negative body image and self-confidence. Although some studies show that especially women who are not satisfied about their body image, they are not successful in their sexual behavior and it can affair in their quality of life.Conclusion: Therefore the association between obesity and mental health remains unclear. It needed more studies on the relationship between obesity and mental health and implications for prevention and treatment Message for policymakers -maximum (100 words):women have key role in the society as we know healthy women can manage healthy family and can treat their children. We mustn’t forget in late decades About 50% of the people working in the community are women. Therefore, special health care for women should be considered
