The study of the awareness level of the operating room technicians’ of their professional tasks description in the hospitals of the Medical Sciences University of Iran in 2017 – 2018

Introduction:The awareness of the duties and responsibilities of the operating rooms technicians is considered as a basis for monitoring systems and quality evaluation. Operating room technicians are supposed to be aware of their professional standards and achieve their professional functions in accordance with professional standards.Materials and Methods:This descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out based on the census and sampling with 143 operating room technicians working in 9 teaching hospitals affiliated with Iran University of Medical Sciences. The research instrument was a researcher-made questionnaire and reliability was performed through Cronbach s alpha and face and content validity. Data were analyzed via SPSS version 19, descriptive statistics, chi-square test and Pearson s Correlation Coefficient.Result:There was observed that in terms of the preoperative responsibilities, 25/7, 35/9 and 38/3 per cents of the technicians experienced the awareness levels of high, moderate and weak, respectively. In terms of the duties during the operation, the awareness levels for 20/4, 34/7 and 44/9 per cents of the technicians were evaluated high, moderate and weak, respectively and considering the technicians postoperative responsibilities, 32/3 per cent experienced high as well as the moderate and 35/3 per cent experienced weak levels in their awareness level.Conclusion:The results indicated that a vast majority of the participated technicians experienced a high level of awareness relevant with their responsibilities before, during and after the operation. Therefore, for precise planning, an accurate knowledge from the effective factors on the technicians’ awareness level is of high importance in order to eliminate the problems decreasing the level of awareness.
