Innovation of Myrtolea Vaginal Ointment in the Treatment of Infectious Vaginitis abstract
Vaginitis is a vaginal inflammatory disease that according to WHO definition, is being developed mainly in the form of candidiasis (mainly caused by Candida albicans), trichomonas (Trichomonas vaginalis) or bacterial vaginosis (due to Gardnerella vaginalis and vaginal anaerobic bacteria). The disease is a result of abnormal vaginal microbial flora and is the cause of visits of nearly five to ten million female patients annually worldwide. In current treatment protocols, the simultaneous administration of several chemical medicines (antifungal, antibacterial, antiparasitic and anesthetic) and repeated administration several times a day will result in multiple drugs entering the body. Increased drug resistance, scheduling problems, doses of prescription drugs, and drug interactions caused by concomitant use of drugs have exacerbated adverse effects in the treatment of vaginitis, which are one of the major therapeutic challenges in this disease. On the other hand, increased drug resistance and recurrence of the disease due to the mechanical weakness of the applicators in drug delivery and exacerbation of infection due to different virulence infections by the non-sterile applicator are among the therapeutic failure factors. Sexual partner infection and chemotherapy problems also lead to drug resistance and re currency.Studies have shown that essential oil of the Mirtus with its various chemical constituents such as alpha Pinene, limonene, cineole, linalool, alpha-terpineol, caryophyllene can be a good alternative to vaginitis therapeutic drugs. The antibacterial properties of essential oil on Gram-positive, Gram-negative and anti-Candida albicans have been proven in many studies. In clinical trials, comparisons between the therapeutic effect of Mirtus essential oil (Myrtol 5%) and vaginal ointment Clotrimazole ; the therapeutic effects of vaginal Myrtol cream are similar to those of Clotrimazole cream and have even greater efficacy in ameliorating some symptoms of vaginal candidiasis. The results of the study showed a significant difference in the improvement of genital itching and secretion in the Mirtus group compared to the Clotrimazole group. Other clinical trials have also confirmed the efficacy of mirtus essence in comparison with other drugs, such as Metronidazole and fluconazole.Myrtolea is an innovation in the treatment of infectious vaginitis. This drug, with concomitant inhibitory properties (bacterial, candidiasis and trichomonas) and local anesthetic, reduces the number of prescriptions and thus reduces drug side effects. The use of a single drug (Myrtolea Vaginal Ointment) in the new regimen reduces drug resistance and prevents incomplete treatment by designing a new (controllable and sterile) applicator in addition to eliminating numerous items of the previous therapeutic protocol drugs. It prevents recurrence by controlling sexually transmitted infections before intercourse and removing parasites from semen. Innovations of this drug have received the patent certificate, patent validation and patent certification of Iran Industrial Research Organization.
