MONITORING AND EVALUATION INDICATORS OF OPIOID SUBSTITUTION THERAPY IN IRAN: A NARRATIVE REVIEW

Abstract:

Background and Aim : The aim of this study was reviewing of current researches about indicators of monitoring and evaluation in opioid substitution therapy.Methods : In this study Methadone maintenance treatment, methadone maintenance treatment guideline, methadone maintenance treatment evaluation, methadone maintenance treatment effectiveness, agonist maintenance treatment, and various combinations of the terms were searched in PubMed, Medline and Psychinfo database. Of the more than 200 articles, 89 relevant articles in English were extracted. Results : Input, output, outcome and impact indicators were extracted. Some of input indicators included physical environment and personnel standards, severity of addiction, and the availability of treatment for specific groups. The output indicators contained high-risk behaviors, returning to the business or education environment, and family relationships. The outcome indicators consisted of retention to treatment, mortality, IV drug usage, multi-drug use, infectious diseases, high risk behaviors, and return to the business or education environment. Finally, factors such as efficiency, effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, cost-benefit, satisfaction and quality of life were impact indicators. The extraction and inventory of these indicators will contribute to the monitoring, monitoring and evaluation of health centers.Conclusion : It seems that the extraction, integration and application of these indicators for monitoring and evaluation of opioid substitution treatment centers contributes to the improvement the quality of services.
