Abstract:
Introduction: Acetaminophen is a common antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory drug that results in high doses of renal and liver toxicity. This injury is manifested as necrosis of the lobular center. Since the extract of some herbs has an effective protective effect on the liver and kidney cells against toxins and oxidants, this study aimed to review the effective medicinal plants in acute liver and kidney toxicity induced by acetaminophen.Materials and Methods: This study was performed by library study method by reviewing traditional pharmacy reference books of different periods and numerous articles. Results: Based on studies of safflower, chahrak and garlic extracts in acetaminophen-induced renal toxicity and hydroalcoholic extracts of ginger, turmeric, thistle, rosemary, gum arabic and green tea in acetaminophen induced liver toxicity. Conclusion: Medicinal herbs such as synthetic drugs may cause irreparable tissue damage with undesirable side effects. Therefore, it is necessary to perform different experiments with different concentrations of the drug on animal models in order to identify the beneficial and harmful effects of the drug on different tissues and organs of the body, to determine its exact and informal use.
