Photonic crystal sensor for sensing glucose abstract

This paper is to design and simulate a simple photonic crystal structure with high quality and sensitivity as a very applicable sensor for measurement of glucose. This sensor work based on changing the refractive index of a result of the change in its glucose concentration, so resonance wavelenght of sensor can change and then we can detect it. Calculations of quality Factor and sensitivity simulations for proposed sensor respectively result in nearly 3800 and 500 nm/RIU (Refractive Index Unit). The resonant mode is localized by the line defect and four point defects in the structure. In simulations with Rsoft, 2D Finite Difference Time Domain and Plane Wave Expansion methods are exploited.
