Abstract:

Herein, the effect of nano-ZrO2, graphene oxide (GO) and nano-ZrO2/GO hybrid on the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) of basalt fiber/epoxy composite was investigated. At the first step, the powders were modified by using an amino-ended silane coupling agent. Multiscale composites containing various amounts of nano-ZrO2 (1, 2 and 3 wt.%), GO (0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 wt.%) or nano-ZrO2/GO hybrid in the matrix were fabricated. The results showed that the specimen with 2 wt.% nano-ZrO2+0.1 wt.% GO had the highest values of ILSS (77% increase with respect to the neat basalt fiber/epoxy composite). The fracture surfaces of the specimens after test were analyzed for better understanding the fracture mechanisms
