Abstract:

Teacher empowerment (TE) has been recognized as a tool for encouraging teachers to get involved in quality professional teaching and learning. A review of the relevant literature on TE, however, reveals that the relationship between teacher empowerment and one of the most important issues in educational contexts, i.e. student learning outcomes is rather unclear especially in EFL contexts, and in particualr the Iranian EFL context. Therefore, additional research is needed to explore the nature of teacher empowerment and how it may relate and/or lead to students’ achievement. Given the importance of teacher empowerment in students’ learning outcomes and the lack of research, this paper was an attempt to review the relevant research studies on teacher empowerment in the Iranian EFL context with the aim of identifying the gap. Having identified the exisiting gap, the paper will then suggest some concluding remarks which could be of both admisnitrators and teachers’ interest
