Abstract:

Peer assessment is an effective way in enhancing learners understanding about a particular task or skill. It has some benefits; it involves students in learning process and helps them to reflect on and evaluate the process of their learning and development. It helps learners feel autonomous, responsible, and involved in the classroom tasks. It encourages peer communication by exchanging the ideas on correcting points (Falchikov, 2001). Having considered the importance of assessment and peer assessment in particular, the present paper is an attempt to review the literature on the issues of assessment and particularly peer assessment to see how peer assessment may affect not only students’ perceptions of assessment but also their learning achievement. Having identified the gap in the literature, the paper then continues to present some concluding remarks which may be useful for teachers and students.
