Abstract:
Combustion on high pressure like as diesel engines condition has been an active area of research over the past two decades with an increasing focus on control and predicts toxic pollutants, while maintaining or improving their high thermal efficiency. Transient and unsteady phenomena such as flame lift off, flame curvature, re ignition and unsteady structure of flame dynamics are limited by commonly employed modeling approaches based on Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations. On the other hand, Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) is a high demanding research tool for predicting engineering flows. The current work aims to contribute to this effort, with the main goal of ascertaining whether LES can effectively be used to predict the diffusion flame dynamics on high pressure condition. The simulation results show that pressure is a main factor on flame dynamics, lift off length and other unsteadiness that are inherent on flame on microscopic views. A Very good agreement between experimental data and computational results is observed for all tests. Significantly, large eddy simulation is shown to be an efficient tool for the prediction of high Reynolds diesel condition flow and other unsteady flow phenomena
