A Niching Ring Topology Genetic Algorithm for Multimodal Optimization

Most real-world problems have a multi-modal property, i.e. there are more than one global or local optimum existing in the function’s landscape. In recent studies, there exists a large amount of attention to multimodal optimization. The present paper proposes a novel niching Genetic Algorithm (GA) for multimodal optimization. In our proposed method, niches are formed according to individual positions. The genetic operators are defined such that the niches are not disrupted. Experimental analysis verifies the superior performance of the proposed method in comparison to the previously-introduced methods.
