Abstract:
In this research, the researchers aim to investigate the perception of English language teaching and learning in private language schools in Iraniancontext, raise English teachers’ awareness and develop their insight towards the notion and role of EFL learners’ perceptions in teaching and learningEnglish. Seventy English language learners from five English classes at Islamic Azad university were randomly employed as participants of thisstudy. The language learners took part in a semi-structured interview. The methodology used in this research is a mixed method. This study examinedEFL learners’ ideas related to English language teaching methodology, accent and the English only policy in Iranian EFL classes. The findings of thisstudy indicated that, the favorable teaching methodology in private language schools in Iran is communicative Language Teaching, the favorableEnglish accent in Iranian context is American accent, and the English-only policy is highly respected in almost all EFL classes. These findings maybe useful to language teachers and lesson planners.
