Ecodistrict: an innovative answer to an old problem A comparative study of traditional urbanism in hot arid zone of Iran with the principles of ecodistrict

More than three decades have passed since the beginning of the first steps towards global sustainable development. In this regard, housing and urban policies in all societies are paying more attention to environmental conservation, biodiversity and planning energy consumption reducing programs. Ecodistrict is one of the latest achievements of developed countries. The main purpose of this article is to define and review of achievements of world science and praxis in general in order to understand the new trend of urban design and mattering the importance of improving ecodistrict in countries with hot and dry climate in order to attract the attention of experts and scholars in one hand, and to sensibilize the officials and administrators of urban politicians on the other hand. Here, we‟ve chosen hot and dry climate of the Yazd city to study. The author is seeking to introduce the typology of thousands of years of architectural in this climate and it`s brilliant architectural and urban history in order to mining potential capacities to develop a design criteria for arid-zone ecodistrict
