Abstract:
In this paper, the effect of cutting speed, feed rate and side cutting edge (SCE) angle on the surface roughness in the turning of St-37 satnples has been studied. Each of theseparameters was considered in four different levels. Furthermore. the effect of lathe machine accuracy of the results has been studied. To do this, the total number of 16 experiments has been designed using Taguchi method. The designed experiments have been conducted on two different lathe machines with different accuracies. Theanalysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to study the effect of the above-mentioned parameters on the surface roughness of the samples. Finally. the optimum values of the process parameters were calculated using Taguchi method. The results showed that although the accuracy of lathe machine affects the surface roughness, but it doesn t have a considerable effect on the optimum values of the process parameters. Consequently, the same optimum values have been obtained for the turning operations on the two lathe machines.
