Abstract:

Fluorescence quantum yield of Coumarin500 dye in the proximity of gold metal nanoparticles, based on Gersten-Nitzan model, is investigated. Quenching of the fluorescence quantum yield of dye in presence of 1 and 20 nm nanoparticles, due to energy transfer from dye to nanoparticles, is occurred, which is obeyed Forster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) and Nanomaterial Surface Energy Transfer (NSET) mechanisms, respectively. Also, calculations show because the absorption cross-section of bigger nanoparticles greater than that of dye, energy from nanoparticles to dye is transferred. Consequently, fluorescence quantum yield of dye in the vicinity of larger nanoparticles enhances. However, smaller nanoparticles have the absorption cross-section less than that of dye which causes to fluorescence quenching of dye.
