Abstract:

An analysis on tunnel in a triangular hill subjected to SV waves has been conducted and the effect of using MetaSoil on amplification evaluated. The aim of this article is to reduce the seismic amplification on the tunnel using some cells full of MetaSoil (MS). MS is a set of cells full of metamaterials which can trap seismic waves in a specific zone to able to attenuate seismic responses. Soil medium is considered elastic, isotropic and homogenous. All models analysed with various wave frequencies by Finite Element Method (FEM). According to the results, seismic responses on tunnel have been considerably attenuated so that amplifications reduced up to 80%. Moreover, all amplifications around tunnel on all different cases were attenuated. These considerable results is because of using MS; thus, it can be a practical and useful way to protect this kind of structures and even the other ones like buildings, bridges and so on.
