Abstract:
There are several methods for removing acid gases from cracking gas. In this study, reactive absorption was considered by chemical absorption in caustic aqueous solution. This study is based on simulation with ProMax version 2.2. To describe the performance of the caustic tower, the TSWEET Kinetics and the Caustic Treating Thermodynamic Package, have been used to simulate the absorption tower. SRK equation of state for gas phase and Electrolytic ELR for liquid phase was used to describe thermodynamic properties of these phases. Simulation results show the high efficiency of caustic for the removal of hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide. The simulation results show that the concentration of hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide in the outlet gas from the caustic tower is close to zero. It is discussed about the replacement of different packing and their effect on reducing the consumption of caustic. The results showed that at constant caustic flux and concentration, IMTP 50 and Pall ring metal 2 inch packing had better performance in absorbing hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide from cracking gas
