Abstract:

The sunflower is the fourth largest oil source iri the world , after soybean ,palm and canola.Sunflower is classified to three groups : traditional ( 20-30% ) high-oleic ( 80-90% ) and mhd-oleic ( 55-75% ) ,which the two last groups have better shelf life and nutritional quality. The main purpose of this project was fatty acid profile evaluation in some promising sunflower lines and combinations for selecting of superiors. Therefore 57 samples were selected.After oil extraction and methylesterification by ISO 5508 , 5509 , fatty acid methyl esters were analysed with gas chromatograph. The results showed 12 samples belonged to high-oleic group, 2 samples were mid-oleic and the others were traditional.The higlj oleic and mid-oleic samples should be inserted in future breeding programs.
