Abstract:

Access to wheat cultivars with high yield and stability in different environments, is one of the objectives in any wheat breeding program. This study was conducted in 7 cold locations in 2001/02 cropping season to select the superiors from 54 advanced wheat lines with high yield, wide adaptation, desirable agronomic traits and resistant to diseases. Experimental design in all the locations was randomized complete block (RCB) with 3 replications. Combined analysis of variance carried out using SAS system and based on signification of genotype x location interaction effect, yield stability of genotypes was determined using simultaneous selection for yield and stability (YS) method. Results showed wheat lines no. 4, 6, 7, 8, 18, 19, 31, 32, 34, 40, 57 and 59 totally 12 lines were superior than the check cultivar based on YS value and resistance to diseases (specifically stripe rust). The selected lines will further be evaluated in cold locations in 2002/03 and 2003/04 cropping seasons.
