Abstract:

This experiment was carried out to determine the best seeding rate in bread wheat genotypes using RCBD in split plot arrangement with three replicates on five advanced bead wheat promising lines superior in multi-location experiments. GenotypesM-73-20, M-73-19, M-73-18, M-73-4 and C-73-5 allocated to the main plots and the seeding rates of 300, 350, 400 and 450 seeds per square meter in subplots. Results revealed significant seeding rate effect on grain yield with the highest mean of 7.640 t ha-1 in seed rate 400 per square meter. The maximum non-significant biological yield obtained from the seed rate of 300 seeds per square meter with the mean of 16.170 t ha-1. While the highest harvest index of 49.16% obtained from the seed rate of 450 seeds per square meter. This means that harvest index increased by increasing seed rate but not significantly different.Wheat line M-73-4 with the mean grain yield of 7.955 had a significant difference with C-73-5 (P<0.05) but in the same class with other genotypes. The highest harvest index of 51.62% belonged to the genotype M-73-20.Combined anova results showed that genotype M-73-4 with the mean grain yield of 8.068 t ha-1 washighly significant (P<0.05) different from other genotypes in 400 seeds per square meter. Genotype M-73-19 was highly significant (P<0.05) in biological yield with the mean of 19.26 t ha-1 in 300 seeds per square meter. Genotype M-73-20 with harvest index of 54.22% (seed rate of 300 seeds per square meter)had significantdifference(P<0.05) with other treatments.
