Abstract:

Prunus dulcis (Mill) Webb and Juglans regia L. are the most important species in arid and semi-arid areas of world and Iran. Almond is resistant to water deficiency and low soil fertility and it is suitable for infertile soils and degraded forests and water catchments. Overall 23 genotypes of almond and seven genotypes of walnut were collected from different sites of Markazi province.The seeds were sown at a nursery around Arak city in 1994. Based on seedlings performance in nursery ,12 genotypes of almond and five genotypes of walnut have been selected for the forest plantation trial at an experimental station around Arak city in 1996. The almond and walnut plantation trials were performed under completely randomized blocks statistical design with four and three replicates for almond and walnut genotypes, respectively. The total collected genotypes of the two species were planted in a collection at the same station to study the species phenology and fruit production. The results showed that except for survival in almond genotypes, there was not significant defferences between the genotypes in their growth performance .The genotypes number 1 and 8 of almond species had the greatest percentage of survival. Furthermore, the almond genotypes number 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,17and 1 flowered later the other genotypes.Thise is a good index for almond cold resistance and high crop product.
