Abstract:

In this study, the dynamic earthquake behavior of a standing water tank model hasbeen investigated experimentally and theoretically. In the study, a water tankof 8101 m height was produced. The tank was fixed on a shaking table and itsearthquake behavior was investigated experimentally. The experimentalresults were compared with the numerical results of the building analysissoftware, and they were found to be compatible. The same experiment wasrepeated in the same tank which was filled with various levels of water, andthe results were compared with the numerical results of building analysissoftware. Taking the seismic structural analysis of water tank into account, theeffects of liquid sloshing seemed to have significantly affected the dynamicbehavior of the model. Since the model structure was largely designed inaccordance with the laws of similarity, the experimental mistakes wereminimized. The compatibility between the results of theoretical methods andthe current experiment shows the success of the models used for fluidstructureinteraction.
